Job Description
We are seeking a Master Thesis student to contribute to the development of an energy system model. In particular, this research aims to investigate the role of sector coupling in the future energy system. Sector coupling has an important role, as from one side it offers the possibility to decarbonise sectors in a cost-efficient manner, and from the other side it offers flexibility to the electricity sector to balance generation from variable renewable energy sources.
- During your master thesis, you will model the decarbonisation pathway for a sector (transport, heat, hydrogen and its derivatives) in different scenarios.
- You will extend the existing model framework to include new features or constraints.
- Last but not least, you will implement the scenarios into an existing energy system model to investigate the impact of your work on other areas of the energy system.
Qualifications
- Education: Master studies in the field of studies in the field of Industrial Engineering, Informatics, Electrical Engineering or comparable
- Experience and Knowledge: an intuition for Energy Economics, knowledge of Operations Research and Mathematical Modelling, coding experience in Python for data science applications
- Personality and Working Practice: collaborative, structured, analytical and independent
- Enthusiasm: interest in energy economics and decarbonisation strategy
- Languages: good in English

Duration: 6 months
