Working student position in the field of corrosion protection from October 2024

Mercedes-Benz Group AG is one of the most successful automotive companies in the world. With Mercedes-Benz AG, the vehicle manufacturer is one of the largest suppliers of premium and luxury cars and vans.

In today's vehicle development process, the safeguarding of the vehicle with regard to corrosion protection is primarily based on technical testing and the expertise of experienced employees. In the course of digitalization, the Surface & Corrosion Protection Complete Vehicle department is therefore working on solutions to digitally supplement and support the determination of corrosion protection. The numerical simulation of corrosion processes plays a central role here. The material properties and material pairings play a special role in determining the corrosion progress of a specific area.

One aim of the student traineeship is the preparation and analysis of component pairs and their properties. Components are to be analyzed and grouped. The methodology developed in this context is to be applied to a further area of work during the course of the internship. Groups are to be formed from individual triangles and further processed based on their corrosion risks and corrosion protection. This is used for the post-processing of time series and classification networks.

These are some of the challenges you will face:

• Familiarization with the topic and the existing methods as well as the code base
• Designing an algorithm for grouping triangles and detecting pairs
• Implementation and integration into an existing project
• Extension of the methodology to other applications

• Degree in computer science, mathematics, physics, engineering or similar
• Very good programming skills, preferably Matlab
• Independent and structured way of working
• Analytical way of thinking
• Reliability and ability to think abstractly
• Commitment and ability to work in a team
• Analytical mindset and strategic way of working
• Enjoy programming
