Thesis Manufacturing of a large-scale rocket nozzle component for space application
Jetzt bewerbenStellenbeschreibung
In cooperation with the Chair for Laser Technology LLT at RWTH Aachen University the Fraunhofer Institute for Laser Technology ILT, Europe's leading center for contract research and development in the field of laser technology, offers the possibility of a thesis in the department "Additive manufacturing and repair LMD".
Laser material deposition using direct energy deposition (DED) has shown promising applications in the space for near net shape and high value component, where the manufacturing cost can be significantly reduced. To fully use the potential of DED, one key challenge lies in achieving a high deposition rate for the component and yet maintaining a good build quality. Therefore, it is crucial to understand the effect of parameter changes in the DED process and optimize them for a strategy with a high deposition rate and build quality.
What you will do
- Optimize process parameters for DED technology with a high-rate deposition strategy
- Build a near net shape rocket nozzle for space industry
- Conduct materials analysis with optical microscope
What you bring to the table
- You are studying mechanical engineering, materials science, physics or a comparable course of study
- You are interested in experimental work and are characterized by a high degree of independence, creativity, and a responsible and structured way of working
What you can expect
- Practice-orientated final thesis in an innovative working environment
- A creative and interdisciplinary working environment in a highly motivated team
- Excellent machinery and equipment
- Exciting and challenging areas of work in applied research
- Good transport links (bus connection, free car park)
- Flexible working hours that allow you to combine your studies and professional practice
- Benefits
The position is limited until the completion of the thesis.
