Augsburg: Master student (m/f/d) Design of tank structures
Jetzt bewerbenStellenbeschreibung
We - MT Aerospace - are part of the OHB Space and Technology Group. As a leading international aerospace company, we develop, manufacture and test essential components for launcher programs such as Ariane, the U.S. Space Launch System (SLS) as well as commercial launcher systems, the Airbus fleet, spacecrafts, satellites and defense applications. Thanks to globally unique manufacturing technologies, we create high-performance products made of metal and fiber composites, such as large load-bearing structures and cryotanks, lightweight structures and fuel as well as pressure tanks that combine maximum performance with minimum weight. Especially our business areas of additive manufacturing, CFRP and hydrogen mobility make us a sought-after partner outside the aerospace sector as well. We currently employ around 600 people at our headquarter in Augsburg and at the launch site in Kourou (French Guiana).
Space. Far away for most - soon very close for you. Become part of an industry of visionaries and pioneers and make a valuable contribution as a Master student (m/f/d) Design of tank structures to help the European launcher Ariane and other international launchers take off.
Cryogenic propellant tanks are essential structural components of modern launch vehicles. Their design has a significant influence on the overall weight, manufacturing costs and reusability of the launcher system. Current solutions are mainly based on aluminium and stainless steel alloys. In the course of the development of future launchers, the need for innovative, cost-efficient solutions that are both structurally optimised and suitable for reusable systems is coming into focus. The aim of this master's thesis is to develop new construction methods for metallic cryogenic tanks that meet the requirements of future launcher systems - particularly with regard to weight savings, low-cost production approaches and reusability.
Your Tasks
- Title: Development of innovative and cost-efficient metallic tank designs for next-generation reusable launch vehicles
- Literature and technology research: You will analyse existing tank designs in aluminium and stainless steel alloys and evaluate them in terms of weight, manufacturing effort and suitability for reusability concepts
- Concept development: You will develop innovative design solutions taking into account mechanical, thermal and manufacturing requirements for cryogenic applications - supported by the team - and implement them in CAD
- Rough design: You will carry out structural-mechanical dimensioning based on typical load cases (e.g. internal pressure, start-up acceleration, temperature gradients)
- Comparative evaluation: You will estimate the structural masses and manufacturing costs of the developed concepts in comparison to current standards. In doing so, you take into account scalability and use in future launcher systems
Your Qualifications
- You are studying aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering or a comparable subject
- You have knowledge of structural mechanics, materials engineering and CAD design (NX) and FE analysis
- You are highly motivated to familiarise yourself with new subject areas
- You think analytically and should be able to understand and systematically solve complex technical problems
- You enjoy working in a team and communicate clearly and efficiently
